The first in a series of gospel commentaries prepared in order to replace The Four Gospels: An Introductory Commentary, first published in Australia in 1980. The text of Matthew's Gospel is presented in a narrow column on the outside of the page but when necessary the commentary extends over the full succeeding pages.
